Dr. Robert Schatz, Interim Director of the
Temple Bioscience Business Accelerator |

 Temple, Texas – August 05, 2009 – The Temple Health & Bioscience District Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Robert W. Schatz, Ph.D. to the position of Interim Director of the Temple Bioscience Business Accelerator.
The appointment became effective August 1, 2009. Dr. Schatz brings to the position an extensive background in business development, technology assessment, contract negotiation, licensing and marketing.
With an undergraduate degree from the University of New Hampshire and a doctorate in anatomy and cellular biology from Tufts University in Boston, Dr. Schatz pursued a research career in Molecular Biology at Tufts before being recruited to industry in 1986. For the next 14 years he served in a variety of leadership roles in the Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical industry in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Chapel Hill, North Carolina and Madison, Wisconsin.
In 2001 he was appointed Program Manager of Corporate relations at the University of Wisconsin - Plattville where his state-wide efforts were recognized by being named a Wisconsin Idea Fellow by the Board of Regents of the UW System. In 2006 he moved to the University of Texas at Austin where he has until recently served as a Licensing Specialist.
The Bioscience District Board feels fortunate to have recruited someone whose talents and experience provide an ideal 'fit' for the mission and goals established by the District for it’s Business Accelerator. As Interim Director of the Accelerator, Dr. Schatz will work with the District’s academic and business partners to attract companies and entrepreneurs that seek opportunities to collaborate with clinicians and scientists in healthcare product development.
