| Central Texas Veterans Health Care Center of Temple With the integration in 1995 of the Olin E. Teague Veterans' Center, the Waco VA Medical Center, the Thomas T. Connally VA Medical Center, and four outpatient clinics, these entities together became the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System (CTVHCS). CTVHCS is one of the largest integrated healthcare systems in the Department of Veterans Affairs, and contains one of the newest VA hospitals, one of the largest inpatient psychiatric facilities, and one of the few Blind Rehabilitation Centers in the country. In FY 2004, CTVHCS operated 1,063 beds and saw over 730,000 outpatient visits. CTVHCS is primarily affiliated with the Texas A&M University, College of Medicine, however a second affiliation was recently acquired with the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, making CTVHCS one of the few VA's in the country with more than one affiliation with a major medical school. The Olin E. Teague Veterans' Center in Temple, TX is a full-service teaching hospital and the headquarters of the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System. It serves as the medical/surgical referral center for CTVHCS and provides service to over 64,000 enrolled veteran users across a 32-county service area. 177 medical/surgical beds, 272 Nursing Home Care Unit beds, and 24 pallative care beds are located in this state of the art hospital. Also on the grounds of the Teague Center is a 408-bed VA Domiciliary, a 120-bed State Veterans Home, residences for 3rd and 4th year Texas A&M University College of Medicine medical students, and a new $11.5 million dollar VA Research Institute which will attract world-class researchers to the area. The Research Institute opened in 2003. |
